Diving In Isla Mujeres
The reef surrounding Isla Mujeres is part of the second largest reef system in the
world and is known in the scuba diving industry as one of the best reef systems
for diving. Teeming with schools of fish and great visibility, Isla Mujeres offers
scuba divers a vast playground for discovering the underwater world.
Located near Cancun, Isla Mujeres is an island destination for scuba divers and
non scuba divers alike. The Island remains a serene, quiet and undiscovered piece
of paradise with a subtropical climate.
Most of the scuba diving and snorkeling activity around Isla Mujeres is focused
on the reefs and shallow coral formations of the National Marine Park that extends
from the southern tip of the island to the point of Cancun. Fishing is not allowed
in this area.
There are two main coral reef systems surrounding Isla Mujeres, Manchones and Atlantis
reefs. Easily accessible with depths beginning in less than 30 feet of water, Isla
Mujeres reefs boast abundant underwater sea life and colorful coral.
There are also several wreck drives within minutes of the Island that provide more
advanced divers opportunities to explore wreckage in 80 to 100 feet of water. The
wrecks are home to large Manta Rays, Turtles and Giant Grouper.
