PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
Overview
The Advanced Open Water Diver program provides the new diver with structured, well-supervised means to gain additional experience. The Advanced Open Water program consists of the Advanced Open Water and Advanced Plus courses. Both courses initiate the diver to more specialized diving activities under the guidance and supervision of an Instructor.
The Advanced Open Water may be taken by Open Water Divers or those with equivalent
certifications, who are a minimum of 15 years old.
The Junior Advanced Open Water course is available for divers with a
Junior Open Water (or equivalent) rating who are between 12 and 14 years old.
Upon successfully completing the course, the diver receives a certification card denoting the Advanced Open Water Diver, which allows divers to participate in more advanced diving activities with a maximum recommended depth limit of 30 meters/ 100 feet, in addition to the qualifications listed for the PADI Open Water Diver.
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course program
The Advanced Open Water Diver course consists of five open-water training dives: two required "core" dives and three dives to be chosen (instructor and student choice). Before each dive, the instructor explains the dive topic. Then, the students participate in a structured training dive that includes specific objectives and related tasks.
The two required dives are:
- deep dive
- underwater navigation dive
Three dives can be chosen among the following:
- night dive
- boat dive
- drift dive
- peak performance buoyancy dive
- search and recovery dive
- underwater naturalist dive
- underwater photography dive
- wreck dive
The course can be carried out in either two or three days.
2 day course:
day 1: Underwater naturalist dive and navigation
day 2: Deep dive and wreck dive
3 day course:
day 1: Underwater naturalist dive and navigation dive
day 2: Drift dive and fun dive (free)
day 3: Deep dive and wreck dive
